Spring has arrived, bringing with it longer days, lighter evenings and the annual realization that your windows have apparently been filtering the world through a thin layer of dust since 2024!
But you don't need to spend an entire weekend scrubbing the house from ceiling to floor. A few targeted jobs can make a surprisingly big difference.
- Start with the clutter
Open a cupboard. Any cupboard. If you haven't used, worn or even remembered an item exists for the past year, it may be time to let it go. Donate it, recycle it, bin it or pass it on. You are unlikely to need seven mismatched Tupperware lids in your next chapter. - Let the light in
Clean the windows, mirrors and light fittings. It's remarkable what happens when sunlight can actually get through the glass. Suddenly the rooms look brighter, fresher and possibly even larger, and there really is no need to tell anyone it was the windows. - Tackle the forgotten corners
Dust has a remarkable ability to establish itself in places humans rarely visit: behind the furniture, under beds, on top of cupboards and around those mysterious objects that live permanently in the corner. Give these areas a proper once-over. Your sinuses will thank you. - Don't forget outside
Sweep patios and pathways, tidy overgrown plants, clean the outdoor furniture and clear out the gutters. A little attention outside makes the whole property feel better cared for and ready for the warmer months.
And finally, cheat a little. Put some fresh flowers, greenery or a bowl of lemons somewhere visible. Instant spring with minimal effort and nobody needs to know.
And if all this has you looking at your home slightly differently, perhaps it's time for a chat about what it could be worth.
