Sandbaai doesn't always make the glossy travel brochures. It isn't quite as flashy as Voëlklip, nor as fiercely independent as Onrus. Instead, it quietly gets on with being one of the Whale Coast's most practical, family-friendly and appealing suburbs.
Positioned at the gateway to the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, Sandbaai offers a little bit of everything. Schools? Tick. Shopping? Tick. Retirement living? Tick. Beach walks, churches, community events, medical care? Also tick. Residents enjoy easy access to the Whale Coast Mall, excellent schools including Curro, the Hermanus Christian School and Waldorf, plus a beautiful stretch of coastline linked to the cliff path meandering towards Onrus.
The suburb has a distinctly down-to-earth character and you'll find everything from modest starter homes and townhouses to substantial coastal properties, alongside secure estates and retirement developments. Property prices generally range from around R2.5 million for older homes to well over R10 million for premium seafront positions, while the average sale price currently sits at roughly R2.8 million.
Locals often divide Sandbaai into East and West. The eastern side offers convenient access to the mall and neighboring business hub, while western Sandbaai, edging towards Onrus, feels quieter and more residential, with fewer commercial influences and a slightly more laid-back atmosphere.
In short, Sandbaai may not shout for attention, but that's rather the point. It's comfortable in its own plakkies!
